| TWILA TV's AJ Sabine explains how members of the Greater Baton Rouge Port Commission resigned this week. The reason: the Louisiana Board of Ethics says those two members, who are also Farm Bureau members, cannot serve because they have grain contracts with Cargill. Cargill is a tenant of the port and is up for contract renegotiation next year. The Ethics Board, in its opinion, says those two members must either resign from the commission or stop doing business with Cargill. If not, its a conflict of interest and they could face fines. To make this even worse, Governor Bobby Jindal must appoint two more people to the commission before the 2009 Legislative Session comes to an end. That, by the way is June 25th. |
